Hyundai Tucson Review: Design and Performance

New Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson is continually evolving. It has transformed from a mundane crossover to a stunning vehicle. The new Tucson exudes a European character, which is a great plus. Coupled with a 2.0-liter engine that allows for smooth lane changes and an enhanced chassis, this CUV promises to please and excite. Here are the details.

Exterior Design

I can sum up its new look in one word: beautiful. When it was launched, I tried to criticize any angle but couldn't find any fault. If there’s anything to critique, it might be the alloy wheels, which remind me of the cheaper wheels on the Audi RS7. The Tucson looks like a fun CUV and fits perfectly into the compact crossover category.

Interior Design

I must say that the Tucson feels more luxurious than its larger sibling, the Santa Fe. I’m not sure how they achieved this, but it works. The solid structure and overall feel when you sit inside provide a sense of comfort. The driver feels directly connected to the road. However, they need to improve sound insulation, as wind and road noise are noticeable. For now, you can turn up the stereo, and the street noise won’t bother you.

Speaking of luxury, the leather used is incredibly comfortable. The gear shifter also has a premium feel. The dashboard looks sleek, which is unusual for this segment. The interior space is ample as well. In terms of technology, the version I tested wasn't the top-spec model, so I didn’t get to experience the touchscreen. Other features, such as Bluetooth, the sunroof, the sound system, parking sensors, and the rear camera, all function well, and I have no complaints.

Driving Experience

Tucson Driving Experience

The vehicle I tested had a 2.0-liter engine producing 150 horsepower and approximately 200 Newton meters of torque. This small engine is powerful and comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine accelerates smoothly without any issues, and the gear shifts are seamless. It offers multiple driving modes, but I didn’t notice significant differences between them. The all-wheel-drive option is good for beach driving, but not much else. The vehicle's height protects the bumpers from uneven streets and potholes.

In our tests, the Tucson accelerated from 0-100 km/h in just 9 seconds and stopped from 100-0 in 3.5 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised by the fuel consumption of the Tucson. I drove the car for three days on trips between Dubai and Sharjah, and it managed on just one tank of fuel. That's impressive! Ultimately, the fuel consumption averaged 8.6 liters per 100 km. Excellent.
