Infiniti Prototype 9 Concept: A Blend of Heritage and Modern Engineering
Introduction
Following teaser images that surfaced on the Interweb and had auto enthusiasts shooting questions in all directions, Infiniti has released new images of the heritage-inspired Prototype 9 that is set to make its debut at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Design Inspiration
The Infiniti Prototype 9 Concept is reminiscent of the Silver Arrow and takes inspiration from race cars of yesteryear. Key features include:
- Handcrafted aluminum panels
- Open cockpit design
- Exposed wheels with a wire-mesh design

Modern Engineering
Despite the retro styling, the Prototype 9 Concept is engineered to modern standards. The powertrain is loosely based on the next-generation Nissan Leaf, featuring:
- Rear-mounted electric motor
- 30kWh battery pack
- 148 horsepower output
- 320 Nm of torque

Performance
While the power figures may not seem like much, it is worth noting that the Prototype 9 Concept weighs just 890 kilograms. This nimbleness allows the concept to:
- Accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds
- Reach a limited top speed of 168 km/h
Critique
However, there are some disappointments, such as the odd hood ornament and lackluster grille, which seem extremely out of place. Furthermore, the Prototype 9 Concept will also run dry in a shocking 20 minutes, much like a battery-powered R/C car.
