Kia Wins Design Awards for EV6 and Carnival Models
Introduction
Korean automobile giant Kia Motors has hit the headlines once again by winning two prestigious design awards, each for two of their latest models: the Kia EV6 electric crossover and the all-new Kia Carnival MPV, in the annual Good Design Awards.
Kia EV6: A Revolutionary Electric Crossover
The all-new Kia EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) and is based on the brand’s new Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This innovative platform provides:
- Impressive 528 km real-world driving range
- Ultra-fast recharging capabilities
The EV6’s bold conceptual styling incorporates Kia’s acclaimed new design philosophy, ‘Opposites United,’ inspired by the contrasts found in nature and humanity. Key exterior highlights include:
- Sleek daytime running lights forming part of the car’s ‘Digital Tiger Face’
- A contemporary and aerodynamic side profile
- A bold crossover-inspired silhouette
The interior benefits from the E-GMP platform, facilitating a high-tech, spacious, and welcoming environment.
Kia Carnival: The All-New MPV
The all-new Kia Carnival MPV, designed at Kia’s California design studio, showcases a bold and boxy appearance that reflects the visual language found in the brand’s successful rugged SUVs. Key design features include:
- Dramatic lines on the hood enhancing the vehicle’s aggressive character
- Well-defined wheel arches providing a sense of volume to the side profile
The three-row interior, available in seven- or eight-seat configurations, offers a premium and flexible layout, resulting in best-in-class passenger and cargo room.
A Legacy of Design Excellence
The two accolades for the Kia EV6 and Carnival are the latest in a series of design awards received by Kia from the Good Design jury in recent years, recognizing the integrity of the brand’s evolving design ethos. Last year, the panel awarded the third-generation Kia K5 sedan and the fourth-generation Kia Sorento SUV with the same honor. Previous iterations of the K5 and Sorento, along with models like the Telluride SUV and the Soul crossover, have also been recognized.
Design Philosophy and Future Aspirations
Karim Habib, Head of Kia Design Center, stated: “Securing these Good Design awards is an endorsement of the approach we took with the styling of the Kia EV6 and the Kia Carnival, and is a tribute to the collaborative efforts of our talented international design team. It truly has been a pivotal year for us; we launched our brand new design philosophy ‘Opposites United,’ the ethos of which is already transforming our cars, and we are determined to ensure Kia keeps challenging the boundaries of automotive design.”
