Lamborghini Super Trofeo 2022: A Thrilling Motorsport Event in the Middle East
Introduction to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo
While sports car makers continually excite us with advanced technology, power, and aerodynamics, the thrill of extreme racing events enhances this experience. These events take place globally, showcasing beautiful circuits, enthusiastic crowds, and the exhilarating sounds of high-performance racing machines. However, the recent pandemic disrupted these events. Thankfully, one of the most prestigious motorsport events, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, is set to return to the Middle East for its 2022 calendar year.
Event Overview
Organized by Lamborghini's motorsport division, Squadra Corse, this championship will feature the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo cars. The event spans 10 days, consisting of 6 races at two of the most desirable circuits in the Middle East, one of which is well-known in the racing community.
Historical Context
Since its inception in 2017, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo has successfully held two additional seasons in 2018 and 2019, with increasing enthusiasm each year. The Middle East edition has allowed 69 drivers to participate, with Frederik Schandorff winning the Pro class title in 2019. He further distinguished himself by winning the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals that same year.
Event Schedule and Locations
Yas Marina Circuit
The event kicks off with a grand opening during the 3rd weekend of January at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, a premier testing ground for racing enthusiasts that attracts thousands of spectators each year.
Dubai Autodrome
Following the opening weekend, the championship will move to the Dubai Autodrome, a venue known for car launches and thrilling go-kart events. Each round will consist of three 50-minute races, deviating from the traditional two races per weekend format observed in Europe, Asia, and North America.
What to Expect
The event promises excitement as it returns after a significant gap. Spectators can anticipate thrilling performances as cars race at lightning speeds, creating an electrifying atmosphere, especially during the last laps.
Race Procedure
The race weekends will commence with two 60-minute practice sessions, allowing drivers to familiarize themselves with the track. This will be followed by two 20-minute qualifying sessions:
- The grid for Race 1 will be determined by the fastest times in Q1.
- Race 2 grid positions will be based on the results of Q2.
- The final race order will be established by collating Q1 and Q2 times.
Winning teams and drivers from each category—Pro, Pro-Am, Am, and Lamborghini Cup—will earn a complimentary entry into the World Finals.
Event Dates
The event dates are as follows:
- Yas Marina Circuit: January 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2022
- Dubai Autodrome: January 27th, 28th, and 29th, 2022
