New Nissan GT-R: Performance, Trims, and Innovations
Introduction
Back in 2007, Nissan shattered the motoring world with its groundbreaking sports car - the GT-R. During its prime years, the GT-R was always in the conversation of being the greatest sports car of all time alongside the Porsche 911. However, in the past few years, the GT-R has aged and failed to evolve as much as its counterparts.
Latest Refresh
Despite the Godzilla becoming old enough to sit for a driving license test, Nissan has given it another refresh for its 16th production year, introducing two new trims - T-Spec and Nismo.
Performance Specifications
Currently, there are a total of eight variants of the GT-R, with seven of them powered by the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing:
- 565 hp and 467 lb-ft of torque for standard models.
- 600 hp and 481 lb-ft of torque for the range-topping Nismo spec.
A six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and Nissan's ATTESA ET-S all-wheel-drive system send power to all four wheels, with torque split variable from front to rear depending on driving circumstances. The GT-R also features:
- Brembo brakes
- Bilstein DampTronic adjustable shocks
- RAYS 20-inch wheels
Innovative Features
What is ‘new’ is the fact that, for the very first time, the NISMO version gets a limited-slip differential for the front axle. The clever engineers at Nissan have also worked some magic on the bodywork to maintain the drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd for the new GT-R despite the upgrades to the exterior.
Quote from Nissan COO
“With evolving toward ultimate driving pleasure as its product concept, the Nissan GT-R continues to enhance its status as a premium sports car. The new models represent the next level of balance between speed and ride quality. Fronted with a new grille design, cutting-edge technologies and craftsmanship, the new models are the pinnacle of the GT-R R35,” said Nissan COO Ashwani Gupta.
