Introduction of New Lane Violation Fines
In a bid to increase the safety of road users and motorists in the emirate, Ras Al Khaimah Police have activated surveillance cameras and introduced an AED 400 fine for lane violations. Motorists who change lanes suddenly or without indicating will now be subjected to a fine, as findings reveal that a lack of lane change discipline is the leading cause of road accidents in the UAE.
Statements from RAK Police Officials
Brigadier Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, RAK Police, stated: “Failing to observe the lane rule has been blamed for many dangerous accidents, particularly at traffic lights and junctions as motorists swerve at the last moment to catch an exit or take a turn.” As a reminder, the officer stressed that surveillance cameras detect traffic violations such as:
- Jumping a red light
- Crossing an intersection at high speed
- Lane change violations
Statistics on Lane Change Violations
