The Ford Mustang is an automobile that does not need an introduction. Rather, let us spend our time getting to know the all-new 2025 Ford Mustang GTD. So, what is this new Mustang? Ford wanted to create a thoroughbred racing variant of its all-time popular muscle car, but one that is meant to enter the world-famous yet grueling 24 hours at Le Mans in 2024.

After its stint at Le Mans, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will also be appearing in 24 Hours of Spa and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The story behind the making of the Mustang GTD starts in 2021, when some brilliant folks working after-hours at the brand’s wind tunnel facility in Michigan, decided that they wanted a creation to rival some of the best European sports cars.

According to Ford, the all-new Mustang GTD was inspired by the fabulous Mustang GT3 – this time, tuned all the way up to eleven! The American major will be taking its latest Mustang over to Europe for road-testing purposes, before belting it around Nurburgring Nordschleife. As we know, there is no way a track-focused sports car will be taken seriously until it has done its rounds around the Nurburgring.

In the words of the Ford Mustang GTD’s Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall, “We’ve tested the Mustang GTD in North America extensively, including laps at Sebring International Raceway and Virginia International Raceway. This has all been in service of engineering a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes. Moving onto European roads and dedicated test sessions at the Nürburgring is the next step, ahead of a timed run later this year.”

Upon its arrival in the worldwide market, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will be a limited-edition model, set to be powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine producing around 800 horsepower, and revving to over 7,500 rpm! Ford is aiming for an ideal 50/50 weight distribution, achieving that goal by utilizing a lightweight carbon-fiber driveshaft, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, and a rear-mounted 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle. Then there’s dual ride-height front and multi-link rear suspension, of course, along with massive tires all around.

The all-new Ford Mustang GTD is equipped with a specialized front splitter, vented hood, and fenders, along with a hydraulically controlled active rear wing and front flaps, and active titanium exhaust. Obviously, Ford has made generous use of carbon fiber all across the body of the Mustang GTD – including the front splitter & rear diffuser, hood & trunk lid, plus the door sills.

As mentioned earlier, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will get semi-active dual ride-height suspension with adaptive dampers that can be assigned duties depending on the GTD’s on-road and on-track requirements. Compared to the standard Mustang GT, the all-new Mustang GTD features a track that is four inches wider. Assisting in high G-force cornering is the stiffened short-long arm front suspension with pushrod-activated rear suspension with adaptive shock absorbers attached to a lightweight tubular subframe.

To enable hardcore track times, the Ford Mustang GTD is further assisted by forged magnesium wheels and cooling ducts that are mounted below the rear suspension to vent the heat coming off of the rear brakes. Making the experience even better are the 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters, rotary dial shifter, and serial plate – the raw materials for these come from decommissioned titanium parts taken straight from the mesmerizingly-capable Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will be assembled at Ford’s Flat Rock facility, before being shipped to the brand’s Multimatic facilities in Markham, Canada, where Ford Performance and Multimatic teams will meticulously put together handcrafted panels and trim. The all-new 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is expected to cost from USD 300,000 or approximately AED 1.1 million. Eventually, this high-strung Mustang will be coming to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain.
