Opel Astra 1.6L Sedan Review

As the Astra has become the third best-selling car in Europe, Opel has sought to build on its previous successes with its 2013 models. We took the Astra 1.6L Sedan for a test drive to evaluate its performance.

Performance

The Astra 1.6 Sedan is not the most powerful car in its class. Its sleek and lightweight design makes it well-suited for crowded city streets. The overall shape of this vehicle facilitates easy parking, especially with the inclusion of parking sensors.

The automatic suspension system of the Opel Astra significantly enhances comfort, and the car adapted well to various driving conditions we encountered. We drove it on both wide roads and in heavy traffic. The engine noise was low and subdued, while the gear shifts were smooth and effortless. The seats were comfortable and ergonomically designed. As a daily driver, the Opel Astra is excellent for long business trips as well as short errands.

German technology has performed well in the Opel, and we anticipate strong reliability and good resale value, making it a strong competitor against cars like the Volkswagen Polo Sedan and others.

Interior

Opel Astra Interior

Although the interior and exterior design has been refreshed and now appears sportier than before, its appearance is still somewhat conventional. The car's finishing is smart and practical, yet it retains a family-oriented feel for everyday use. This compact model provides adequate space for children, sports equipment, and passenger luggage.

Typically, compact cars do not match the technology found in higher-spec vehicles, and this holds true for the Opel Astra, even though its pricing is reasonable compared to its specifications. Most of its models include:

  • Climate control system, which is essential in the Middle East.
  • Acceptable infotainment system.
  • Radio and CD player.
  • Front and rear cameras.
  • Parking assistance.
  • Safety features such as adaptive front lighting based on weather conditions.
  • Traffic sign assistance.
  • Front collision warning.

This technology is derived from Opel models like the Insignia and Zafira Tourer.

Conclusion

In a world of technologically advanced vehicles, particularly in the compact car segment, the Opel Astra presents itself as a competent daily driver. While it may not excite you with adrenaline-pumping acceleration, it offers a calm and comfortable driving experience.
