Opening of the Polestar Factory
Polestar, the high-performance electric vehicle manufacturer that spun off from Swedish Volvo, has celebrated the opening of its first production facility in China. This event also marked the announcement of Polestar’s global manufacturing identifier, allowing it to operate as an independent automotive company.
New Standards in Electric Vehicle Manufacturing
Aiming to set a new industry benchmark, the Polestar Production Center in Chengdu, China, is set to produce the Polestar 1, a high-performance hybrid electric vehicle made from carbon fiber.
Production and Delivery
The facility, which has been completed on schedule, will manufacture vehicles for both the Chinese market and global export, with the first customer deliveries expected before the end of the year.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, commented: "Here in Chengdu, we are not just manufacturing a high-performance electric vehicle. We have also created an inspiring manufacturing environment and a fantastic place to work and visit. It truly reflects the Polestar brand. We promised to have our first production facility up and running by 2019, to deliver cars to customers this year, and to do things differently – and once again, we are keeping our promises. This is a moment we are incredibly proud of for the entire Polestar team."
Future Production Plans
The Chengdu facility is designed to produce five hundred Polestar 1 vehicles annually, with a total of 1,500 cars planned over a three-year production cycle.
