Vehicle Condition Certificate: Essential for Used Car Buyers
The purchase of a used car is generally accompanied by a cloud of mystery. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) aims to remedy this with its newest service, the Vehicle Condition Certificate. This initiative is designed to improve happiness and reduce fraud by providing important and historical information such as:
- The distance covered in kilometers
- The type and validity of insurance
- Any instances of impound
- The vehicle's previous owners
- The condition during annual road worthiness tests

Sultan Al Marzooqi, Director of the Vehicles Licensing Agency at RTA, said: "The launch of the Vehicle Condition Certificate is an excellent addition to the licensing services currently on offer. It provides clients and potential buyers of used cars with essential detailed information available with the RTA about the condition of a vehicle and will be released following consent from the owner. The price to acquire a Vehicle Condition Certificate stands at AED 120.”
Linked with international firms such as CARFAX and Auto DNA, the Vehicle Condition Certificate can also be obtained for vehicles imported into the UAE from American, European, and Asian countries. Considering the newly introduced 5% Value Added Tax (VAT) on new vehicles, market analysts predict a rise in second-hand car sales, as VAT will be applied differently to used vehicles.
The process to obtain the Vehicle Condition Certificate is simple and consists of four steps. With nothing more than the vehicle's VIN number and the respective pin code, you can apply online for the certificate HERE.
