A new Salik gate will commence operations on Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) in Dubai, soon. This will be the latest addition to the already present two Salik gates on Sheikh Zayed Road, and it will be located in Jebel Ali, near the Energy metro station.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has confirmed that the construction of this new toll gate is already underway. Motorists on either side of Sheikh Zayed Road will be affected by the implementation and charged Salik as they pass by. The opening date of this new toll gate is planned for October 24, 2018.
According to the RTA, the addition of the new Salik gate is a strategic move in a bid to reduce the pressure and ease traffic flow on the congested Sheikh Zayed Road. Also, RTA believes that the implementation of this third Salik on SZR might just be enough to encourage more people to choose towards public transportation for their commute.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, “By installing Salik Toll Gate in Jebel Ali, RTA aims to redistribute the traffic movement and divert part of the traffic movement from Jebel Ali in the direction of Sharjah and other Emirates. Motorists will be able to use alternative roads such as the Emirates Road, Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road, Shaikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Road, and Al Khail Road.” The other six pre-existing Salik gates in the emirate of Dubai are present in locations like Al Mamzar, Airport Tunnel, Garhoud Bridge, Maktoum Bridge, Al Safa, and Al Barsha.
