New Salik Gate on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai
Introduction
A new Salik gate will commence operations on Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) in Dubai, soon. This will be the latest addition to the already present two Salik gates on Sheikh Zayed Road, and it will be located in Jebel Ali, near the Energy metro station.
Construction and Impact
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has confirmed that the construction of this new toll gate is already underway. Motorists on either side of Sheikh Zayed Road will be affected by the implementation and charged Salik as they pass by. The opening date of this new toll gate is planned for October 24, 2018.
Strategic Importance
According to the RTA, the addition of the new Salik gate is a strategic move to reduce pressure and ease traffic flow on the congested Sheikh Zayed Road. The RTA believes that the implementation of this third Salik on SZR might encourage more people to choose public transportation for their commute.
Quote from RTA Director-General
According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, “By installing Salik Toll Gate in Jebel Ali, RTA aims to redistribute traffic movement and divert part of the traffic movement from Jebel Ali in the direction of Sharjah and other Emirates.
