Mahboub: The Smart Inspection Robot by RTA for Vehicle Diagnostics
Introduction to Mahboub
At the 38th Gitex Technology Week, which commenced on Sunday, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced Mahboub – a smart inspection robot that will soon conduct vehicle inspections across the emirate. Currently in its pilot phase, Mahboub will be installed at petrol stations and other public locations that are easily accessible by motorists.
Features of Mahboub
Jamal Al Sa’adah, Director of RTA’s Vehicle Licensing department, stated: “In the first phase, we will install these robots at petrol stations so that people can use them to detect faults in their cars and prevent going through potential breakdowns. Mahboub will also save people from having to go to workshops and garages to check faults in their vehicles.”
How Mahboub Works
A multi-step process is set to see motorists using Mahboub’s interactive screen for the fault reading service. The process includes:
- Selecting the fault reading service on Mahboub’s interactive screen.
- Making a payment via credit/debit card.
- Removing a dongle and inserting it into their vehicle for diagnostic purposes.
- After diagnostics, removing the dongle and placing it back inside the robot for data analysis.
- Entering a valid e-mail address to receive the diagnostic report and certificate.
If the first phase is successful, RTA has announced plans to utilize robots like Mahboub for annual vehicle inspection purposes.
