Enhancing accessibility and inclusivity across Dubai’s waterways
Commitment to an Inclusive Dubai
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the upgrade of eight marine transport stations in 2024, aligning them with the Dubai Universal Design Code for an Accessible Environment. This initiative is part of Dubai’s ongoing vision to ensure a fully inclusive city for People of Determination.
Key Enhancements Across Marine Transport Stations
1. Seamless Connectivity
The upgraded stations now feature improved connectivity between docks, open spaces, and facilities, ensuring safe and independent mobility for People of Determination and other passengers.
2. Infrastructure Improvements
Infrastructure enhancements include advanced night-time lighting, the installation of handrails and handgrips, and safety-enhanced flooring with clear security markings, all in compliance with maritime safety standards.
3. Enhanced Audio Systems
New loudspeakers and audio enhancements have been installed to assist individuals with hearing challenges by providing real-time updates on schedules and marine transport trips.
Dubai’s Vision for Accessible Public Transport
The RTA remains dedicated to ensuring that all public transport services are fully accessible, inclusive, and aligned with Dubai’s commitment to becoming a city that meets the needs of People of Determination. These upgrades reflect a broader initiative to enhance urban mobility and improve the overall travel experience for all residents and visitors.
