Details of the Ministerial Decision
After reviewing Federal Law No. 1 of 1972 concerning the Authority of Ministers and its amendments, the Cabinet Decision No. 68 of 2020 regarding the organizational structure of the Ministry of Economy, and a letter from Volkswagen, the parent company based in Germany, to the Ministry of Economy on January 17, the text of the ministerial decision was developed based on the recommendations of the Undersecretary of the Ministry.
Impact of the Decision on Vehicle Registration
Section 2 of the law states that the ministry has temporarily suspended the registration of these vehicles at all vehicle licensing agencies in the UAE.
Exceptions to the Decision
According to Section 3 of the ministerial decision, this ban does not apply to electric vehicles purchased by individuals prior to the date of this decision. The ministry clarified that this exception does not extend to purchases made by dealerships for the aforementioned electric vehicles.
Collaboration with the Manufacturer
The ministry will coordinate with the manufacturer to inquire about the security and safety standards mentioned, in line with the relevant authorities as per Section 4 of the law, to verify the final results and present its findings within 30 days.
