Tesla Model X P100D: Comprehensive Review
This is the Tesla Model X P100D, the fastest, most powerful, and highest-priced Tesla available in the market today. For those who followed our coverage of the recent Global EVRT event, where we traveled 2,500 kilometers across the UAE and Oman in an electric vehicle, you may recall that I drove the Tesla Model X briefly. Today, however, I will delve deeper and show you whether it’s worth its price tag of 483,000 AED.
Exterior Design
While the Model X resembles the Tesla Model S with its raised roof, it still attracts attention wherever it goes. Importantly, it prioritizes functionality over mere aesthetics. For instance, the roof provides ample headroom for those seated in the second row, and its sleek lines make it one of the most aerodynamic SUVs currently on the market, if not the best.
As an electric vehicle, it lacks traditional design features such as a large front grille or exhaust pipes. But what do you gain from this design? You receive:
- A spacious front trunk, offering 187 liters of storage.
- A traditional rear trunk that provides an impressive 2,180 liters of space when the last row of seats is folded down.
Before we head inside, I want to take a moment to discuss the unique key fob that you won’t find with any other car. It is designed to resemble the car itself and features five discreet buttons. By pressing the side button, the elegantly designed falcon-wing doors will open. These doors are not only stunning but intelligent, requiring just one foot of clearance to open upward, equipped with multiple sensors to prevent collisions with walls or parked cars.
Interior Design
In addition to being the fastest, most powerful, and highest-priced Tesla, the Model X is also the most spacious Tesla on the inside, featuring seven seats, each accommodating average-sized adults comfortably. The gigantic windshield will leave you in awe, as it appears to be integrated with the panoramic roof. If that’s not enough to impress you, it also comes with magnetic sunshades.
Tesla has mastered the art of simplicity in its cabin by consolidating all operations into one large vertical touchscreen. The interior features luxurious touches, such as white leather seats and carbon fiber accents on the dashboard and door panels. However, despite its high price point, the overall material quality does not meet the expected standards.
The benefit of the raised roof is particularly evident in the second-row seats, where you will notice ample headroom. Passengers on the sides enjoy what seems like a sunroof for each of them. Speaking of the side seats, there are buttons to control them, while the middle seat can be adjusted via the front touchscreen.
The last row of seats also offers adequate space for adults, with good headroom and legroom. To ensure comfort for those seated there, the vehicle provides cup holders and two air conditioning vents.
Technological Specifications
The Tesla Model X comes equipped with all the standard technological features, including:
- LED headlights.
- Dedicated navigation system.
- Exceptional phone connectivity.
However, these are standard features we often see. Let’s highlight what makes it stand out from the competition.
Firstly, the car has an independent internet data system "like on smartphones," meaning you can browse the internet, get real-time traffic updates, and listen to internet radio. The best part of the internet data system is its continuous updates. If Tesla releases a new update, you might find new features added the moment you start your car in the morning.
As for autonomous driving technology, the Tesla Model X is equipped with eight cameras, twelve sensors, and a front radar capable of detecting cars, buses, trucks, pedestrians, and more. In other words, this car can drive itself. However, due to regulations in certain countries, this system cannot be offered everywhere.
Talking about smart technology, the car can recognize when it approaches a Tesla charging station and will automatically open the charging port.
Driving Experience
Due to its lack of a traditional engine under the hood, its driving experience is entirely different from that of gasoline vehicles. For instance, it is remarkably quiet compared to fuel-powered cars, which adds to its luxury appeal. Additionally, the Model X excels in how it delivers power; there is no delay or hesitation in acceleration, which can be surprising if you’re not prepared for it.
The P100D is powered by two motors that generate 762 horsepower and over 1,000 Nm of torque. These are astonishing numbers that allow you to accelerate from 0-100 km/h faster than both the Ferrari 488 and the Corvette Z06. Yes, I’m talking about this seven-seater SUV.
Its top speed reaches 250 km/h, but when driven sensibly, the Model X can provide over 500 kilometers on a single charge. This is likely due to its regenerative braking system, which charges the battery while driving, along with an automatic height adjustment system that lowers the car at highway speeds to enhance aerodynamic efficiency.
Conclusion
It’s not fair to compare the Tesla Model X P100D with a gasoline vehicle. In fact, given that it is an exceptional car in every aspect, it brings us closer to the day when people will choose electric cars not just to make a statement or help the environment but simply because they want a better vehicle. For those looking to embrace the Tesla lifestyle, it’s worth noting that the Model X comes with an unlimited mileage 8-year warranty on the battery, and the brand recycles 97% of its used batteries.
