The Corvette ZR1 has always been the utopia for ‘Vette lovers. It’s been the king sitting at the top of the Corvette lineup and always showcased the engineering prowess America has. The all-new ZR1, though, is different. Different in a way that it defies the already mind-boggling standards set by previous ZR1s.
The all-new ZR1 is THE fastest V8 production car ever made. The fastest. The 1,025hp Dodge Demon is history, the 1,064hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has dethroned it.
Record-Breaking Power and Performance
So, first things first: the stats. They’re quite wild, as you might have guessed. Twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V8 with a bonkers redline of 8,000rpm. 1,064 horsepower, 828 pound-feet of torque. With these stats, the ZR1 has a better power-to-weight ratio than the Bugatti Veyron, more power than the incredible Mercedes AMG ONE and a whopping downforce of 1,200 pounds.
And then there’s the optional ‘ZTK’ track pack, which takes the ZR1's performance to the next level. This pack includes an aggressive “high-downforce rear wing,” dive planes, a Gurney lip on the bonnet, and underbody strakes. It also features stiffer springs and 20/21-inch alloys shod with special Michelin PS Cup 2-R tires.
Stopping power? Chevy's got that covered, too. The ZR1 is equipped with the largest brakes ever fitted to a Corvette—massive 400mm front and 390mm rear carbon ceramic discs. This setup allows the car to decelerate from 80 to 200 mph and back to 80 mph in just 24.5 seconds, which is 22 percent quicker than its predecessor, the C7 ZR1.
Cutting-Edge Engine Technology
The ZR1's engine, dubbed the LT7, is a close relative of the Z06's LT6 but with significant enhancements. While it shares the same block casting and some minor components with the LT6, the LT7 stands out with unique machining and new forged pistons, achieving a much lower compression ratio of 9.8:1 compared to the LT6's 12.5:1. The engine also features all-new heads and a different crankshaft, setting it apart.
The twin ball-bearing turbochargers are a highlight, being mirror images of each other and featuring single-scroll volutes on the intake side with 76-millimeter compressor wheels. Electronic wastegates allow for precise tuning, especially off-throttle, to minimize turbo lag. The turbines are crafted from a special material called "MAR," which outperforms Inconel in durability and efficiency.
This formidable turbocharged power is managed by a reinforced and re-tuned version of the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission found in all C8 Corvettes, ensuring the ZR1 delivers its impressive performance with precision and reliability.
Lightweight Yet Powerful
Despite all the advanced hardware packed into the ZR1, it's surprisingly lightweight. The use of carbon fiber wheels and carbon ceramic brake rotors—exclusive to this model—helps keep the weight down. The coupe version tips the scales at a dry weight of 3,670 pounds, while the convertible is only slightly heavier at 3,758 pounds dry. It's an impressive feat of engineering, making the ZR1 not only powerful but also remarkably nimble.
Interior: Classic Vette Touches with Unique Enhancements
The ZR1's interior, while following the familiar layout of the base C8 Corvette, introduces a few distinctive touches that set it apart. The typical ‘Vette squared-off steering wheel now features a turbo-boost gauge within the 12.0-inch reconfigurable gauge display. The large infotainment touchscreen remains angled toward the driver, complemented by the unique row of buttons atop the console "wall."
In true ZR1 fashion, there are several exclusive elements, including an interior plaque, ZR1 sill plates, and specific steering-wheel graphics. The 3LZ trim offers a striking new geometric stitch pattern on the doors, along with a blue stitch option and a fresh Habanero-colored interior scheme, adding a vibrant touch to the cabin.
While most of the ZR1's standout features focus on performance, the infotainment system continues to offer the familiar Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus. This includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth audio streaming, a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, ensuring that technology and connectivity are as impressive as the car's performance.
