Al-Futtaim Launches Volvo XC40 Recharge BEV: The First All-Electric Volvo SUV in the UAE
Introducing the Volvo XC40 Recharge BEV: Urban-Ready, Zero-Emission Mobility
Al-Futtaim Trading, the exclusive distributor for Volvo in the United Arab Emirates, has officially launched the all-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge BEV SUV. Marking a first for the Middle East, this fully electric SUV is tailored for urban living and city driving, representing a significant milestone in Volvo’s commitment to a carbon-neutral future and the brand’s pledge to sustainability in the electric vehicle market by 2030.
Sustainable Design and Advanced Performance
Sustainability is at the forefront of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, with eco-friendly materials playing a key role in reducing the vehicle’s environmental impact. For example, the interior upholstery is crafted entirely from recycled rubber. Over a distance of more than 200,000 km, the XC40 Recharge demonstrates a lower carbon footprint compared to the petrol-powered XC40 T5, regardless of the electricity source—be it global, European, or wind energy. Its 78 kWh battery allows drivers to enjoy a targeted driving range of up to 418 km before needing to recharge.
Volvo Studio: A New Era of Car Shopping in the Region
The new XC40 Recharge was unveiled at the recently inaugurated Volvo Studio, the region’s first retail space of its kind, highlighting Volvo's commitment to leading change within the automotive industry. The Volvo Studio aims to modernize the car-buying experience for Volvo customers, offering an enhanced shopping journey complete with personalized test drives and the highest service standards—setting new benchmarks in the automotive world.
Leadership Insights: Volvo’s Path Toward a Sustainable Future
Oscar Rivoli, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Trading Enterprises, commented: “Al-Futtaim is dedicated to providing innovative mobility solutions and services—exactly what our customers expect and deserve as the UAE continues to lead the way toward a more sustainable automotive future. In line with the sustainability pillar of Expo 2020 and our electrification strategy, we are proud to be the first market in the GCC to launch the fully electric, zero-emission XC40 Recharge. We believe the future of Volvo is fully electric, and this launch is a bold step toward achieving a carbon-neutral future. We will continue to support and strengthen Volvo’s electrification strategy and its full commitment to sustainability, manufacturing pure electric vehicles through to 2030.”
Growing Demand for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
Rivoli added: “Al-Futtaim’s approach is rooted in continually diversifying our offerings to meet the evolving needs of consumers. We are witnessing significant growth in demand for BEV technology and compact SUVs as customers begin to embrace and adopt new technologies. Electric vehicles are especially appealing to those who value advanced technology and aspire to incorporate eco-conscious driving into their lifestyles. We believe demand for hybrid vehicles will also continue to grow in the coming years as more people recognize the benefits of hybrid mobility. This presents an opportunity for automakers and dealers to embrace the UAE’s vision and serve as catalysts for change and supporters of this vision.”
