Ford Edge 2019

The Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover SUV and made its global debut back in 2006. It shares its basic architecture with the Fusion sedan and the Lincoln MKX luxury crossover. Over its first decade or so since launch, the Ford Edge went through several facelifts and mechanical improvements to keep it relevant and competitive in this ever-changing and challenging market.

The updated second generation Ford Edge was unveiled in 2015 with a new look, better technology, and more powerful and efficient engine options. With the introduction of the 2019 Ford Edge, the blue oval hopes to capture more of the market, while at the same time continuing to make improvements along the way. In this market and in terms of price, some of the chief competitors for the 2019 Ford Edge include the GMC Terrain, Volkswagen Touareg, Mazda CX-9, and Lexus RX.

Exterior

The 2019 Ford Edge is not only a pleasantly handsome crossover, but also bears proportions and the tough yet athletic stance and demeanor of an SUV. The striking front fascia flaunts a muscular hood design, wide, double-slotted grille, stylish projector headlamps, and chiseled bumper with sharp-looking LED daytime-running lights.

The side view of the Edge reveals some large yet good-looking alloy wheels, bulging wheel arches, sporty character lines, and the ubiquitous black plastic lower-body cladding. The eye-catching rear design of the new Edge sports a prominent roof spoiler, steeply-raked rear glass, and a wrap-around taillamp design with an LED centerpiece on the tailgate. Also, the sporty-looking rear bumper houses dual-exhaust pipes.

The 2019 Ford Edge measures 4.779 meters in length, 2.179 meters in width, 1.742 meters in height, and the wheelbase stretches 2.849 meters. Also, with the middle row down, the Edge’s cargo capacity is an impressive 1,111 liters.

Ford Edge 2019 Interior

Interior

The modern and attractive design theme of the 2019 Ford Edge carries forward to the interior as well. Right from the all-black cabin trim to the various textures and sweeping surfaces, this sporty and smart-looking interior is right on the money. Being one of their newer models, Ford has ensured that this cabin is well-put-together. The quality of materials and trim pieces is pretty good, and so is the fit and feel of most panels and contact points.

The 2019 Ford Edge is offered with automatic HID headlights, rain-sensing wipers, 20-inch alloy wheels, acoustic front and side windows with active noise canceling, panoramic glass roof, adaptive cruise control, power tailgate, leather upholstery, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, an 8-inch infotainment unit with navigation, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system, among others. Standard safety paraphernalia encompass multiple airbags and inflatable seatbelts, ABS, EBD, braking assist, electronic traction, stability program, rollover mitigation, rear cross-traffic and blind-spot alert, hill assist, and parking sensors with camera.

Engine and performance

The 2019 Ford Edge can be equipped with either a 2.0-liter, twin-scroll turbo four-banger, or a twin-turbo, 2.7-liter six-cylinder. While a 6-speed automatic is the only transmission available, the base trim only gets front-wheel drive (FWD), though higher trims get all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard. The smaller Ecoboost motor develops 250 HP and 378 Nm of torque, whilst the V6 churns out 335 boosted horses and 542 Nm of twisting force. This enables the Ford Edge (Sport) to reach 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds, before maxing out at around 200 km/h. However, fuel economy figures for the 2019 Edge aren’t the best, and can vary between 9.8-11.7L/100 km.

Verdict

The 2019 Ford Edge range starts off at AED 142,000 for the base trim and goes up to AED 220,000 for the top Sport variant, while the insurance premiums range between AED 3,195 to AED 4,950.
