Introduction

As it takes the lead in replacing the S80, the S90 competes with rivals like the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class—a group of vehicles vying in the midsize sedan segment.

Launch

Unveiled at the luxurious Al Jissah Resort in Oman, Volvo lifted the veil on its 2017 S90 before a gathering of company representatives and media from across the region. Over two days, the company provided an up-close look at the new model and allowed attendees to drive it through the country's picturesque landscapes.

Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars, stated: "With the launch of the XC90, we made a clear statement of our intentions. We are now serious about entering the game. With an estimated $11 million investment over the past five years, we have not only re-imagined what Volvo cars can be but have also fulfilled our promise of delivering a growing and relevant brand."

Design

The 2017 S90 boasts an aggressive yet elegant design. Smooth contours stretch across the exterior, complemented by deep sculpted edges that give it a commanding stance.

Interior Design Details

Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President of Design at Volvo Cars, remarked: "Our idea was to offer something entirely new for this segment and to provide an exterior that exudes confidence and driving pleasure. Inside, we have taken the S90 to another level, providing an exceptionally luxurious experience that offers comfort and ultimate control."

Technological Features

Inside, the S90 features soft, perforated leather, beautiful wood accents, silver touches, and chrome lines that together create a stunning luxurious appeal. Additionally, the cabin is inspired by the infotainment system found in Tesla vehicles, featuring rectangular air conditioning vents.

Moreover, the car is equipped with a blind-spot monitoring system, cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and an advanced driving assistance system that manages all aspects of the vehicle at speeds of up to 130 km/h, which is a cornerstone toward autonomous driving.

Performance

Dr. Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Volvo Cars, stated: "The S90 has taken a significant step towards dynamic driving, high performance, and ride comfort. Competition and Pricing

Outperforming its competitors in many aspects, the 2017 S90 is priced at 179,000 AED with standard features that match this price. However, only time will tell if the Germans can keep the Swedes at bay.
