Overview of COVID-19 Guidelines for Car Travel in UAE
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE government has introduced strict guidelines that motorists must follow regarding social distancing inside vehicles. A common question among residents and citizens in the UAE is: How many people are allowed to travel in the same car?
Passenger Limits and Family Exceptions
The National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority (NCEMA) has clarified the rules, making it clear for all to understand and follow:
- A maximum of 3 occupants are legally allowed to travel in the same car.
- If the occupants are from the same family, then more than 3 are permitted.
Guidelines for Larger Vehicles
For larger vehicles, such as staff transportation vehicles, NCEMA has advised companies to adhere to the following guidelines:
- Maintain a gap of two empty seats between passengers.
- Ensure that all occupants are wearing a face mask at all times.
Enforcement of Face Mask Requirement
Finally, if at any point in time there is more than one occupant present inside a vehicle, wearing a face mask is mandatory. Failure to comply will incur a minimum fine of AED 3,000.
