Abu Dhabi Taxi Fleet Now Accepts Card Payments

Introduction

The Abu Dhabi public taxi fleet, comprising 6,180 taxis, has been updated to accept card-based fare payments. This initiative was announced by the Department of Municipalities and Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) earlier this week. The rollout aims to limit contact between drivers and commuters, thereby helping to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Health and Safety Regulations

In line with government regulations, commuters using Abu Dhabi taxis must adhere to the following health and safety measures:

• All commuters are required to wear face masks and gloves during their taxi rides.
• Passengers must sit in the back seat of the taxi.
• A plastic sheet has been installed in all vehicles to separate passengers and drivers.
• Hand sanitizers are available in all taxis.
• No more than two passengers are permitted per ride.

How to Pay with Card

To use the card payment feature, commuters need to:

1. Download the Abu Dhabi Taxi application from the Apple Store or Play Store.
2. Register with their personal details.

The ITC emphasized that this card payment feature will greatly benefit tourists, allowing them to travel without the need to carry cash for their taxi rides.
