Dania Akeel: Pioneering Saudi Woman in Racing
Breaking Barriers
It was only in the recent past that women in Saudi Arabia broke free from restrictions that prevented them from pursuing activities they loved. This change has allowed them to enhance their potential and compete on equal footing with men. Recently, Saudi Arabia lifted the ban on women driving cars, which sparked joy among many. Here is the first Saudi woman who has qualified for a Speed Bikes Competition license.
Introducing Dania Akeel
Meet Dania Akeel, who has shattered barriers by participating in international rallies and winning accolades in the racing domain, making her nation proud. Dania is the first Saudi Arabian woman to receive such a prestigious recognition for her outstanding talent. Coincidentally, this recognition as a ‘Real Hero’ by the value fashion and homeware brand RedTag comes as KSA celebrates its 91st National Day.
A Celebration of Talent
This initiative by the indigenous brand commemorates talent, leaders, and revolutionists who are bringing about much-needed change in society through their unconventional activities. It demonstrates that with hard work, innovative ideas, tenacity, and dedication, individuals can achieve anything they aspire to.
Dania's Achievements
Dania's achievement is monumental, especially considering that women were previously not allowed to drive or travel independently. She is the first woman from Saudi Arabia to participate in an international rally event. Notably, she showcased her skills at the FIA Cross Country Bajas World Cup in the T3 category, securing the fourth position in the 8th round of the championship in Baja Italy.
Inspirational Words
Few reach the heights that Dania has, especially on their first attempt. “Dania’s inspiring commitment to her dream and her extraordinary achievements are the perfect examples of the dynamism characteristic of the new emerging KSA, as the nation’s 91st National Day draws near,” states Shehbaz Shaikh, Chief Retail Officer at REDTAG. “Our aim, with the Real Heroes initiative, is to showcase such achievers and pioneers, inspiring the next generation of Saudi youth to dream bigger and achieve fearlessly.”
Overcoming Obstacles
However, Dania's journey to success was not easy. She faced challenges, including three pelvic fractures and a distorted spine during one of the events. Nevertheless, rapid physical therapy paved the way for her return to racing.
Motivating Future Generations
“My message to any Saudi woman or girl is that if she has a hobby she would like to pursue, whether in sports or any other field, she should follow her passion and focus on personal growth,” Dania shares. “I’ve received tremendous support throughout my journey, and I would like to thank REDTAG for including my story in their ‘Real Heroes’ initiative. I am hopeful that this will encourage other young women in Saudi to make decisions that enhance their lives and empower them to chase their dreams, in any field they are passionate about.”
We have much to learn and implement from Dania's inspirational story.
