New Design for Car Number Plates
As part of the new initiative announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, all car number plates in the emirate will undergo a redesign. Officials have urged car owners to update their number plates to the new design. This design, launched in 2014, features a striking combination of blue and pink colors, along with the word "Dubai" in both Arabic and English.
Required Actions for Car Owners
The RTA stated in its recent announcement: "We request car owners with number plates consisting of English letters A to Z to update them to the new design. Owners of vehicles with number plates that do not include the letters A, B, or C must make the change starting from May 2018."
The cost for changing owned plates has not been disclosed; however, the fees for plates not owned that contain letters A, B, and C are said to be minimal. The fee for changing short plates is 35 AED, while long plates will cost 50 AED.
Auction for Special Number Plates
For those interested in purchasing special number plates, the RTA will hold a public auction next month, featuring 300 number plates consisting of 4 and 5 digits with the letters J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T. The auction will start at 8 AM on May 4th and will run for five days. All numbers sold at this auction will be subject to a 5% value-added tax (VAT).
