Dubai Police Fines for Praying on the Side of the Road
Overview of Recent Changes in Dubai
Following an earlier warning about the dangers of parking and praying on the side of the road, Dubai Police has begun fining motorists AED 500 for this act, which is often seen during rush hours on busy highways in the city.
Incidents Leading to New Regulations
The new laws have been implemented after a tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening, where a motorist with a burst tire drove through a crowd of eleven individuals performing their Maghrib prayer on the side of the road.
Casualties from the Incident
Of the eleven individuals affected in the accident, which occurred on Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road:
- Two individuals have been killed.
- Three are believed to be in serious condition.
- Six have suffered various injuries.
Official Statements and Warnings
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police, stated:
“Saturday’s accident is a strong message not to stop on the side of the road and offer prayers near traffic flow. There are many mosques in the city and at petrol stations where motorists can offer prayers instead of endangering lives by praying on the roadside.”
Consequences for Repeat Offenders
Left with no choice, Dubai Police have also threatened to impound the vehicles of repeat offenders who continue to endanger their lives and the lives of other motorists by praying on the roadside.
