Dubai Police Fines Drivers for Praying by the Roadside
Details of the New Law
Following previous warnings about the dangers of this practice, Dubai Police have begun issuing fines of 500 AED to drivers who stop and pray by the roadside. This behavior has become increasingly common during peak hours on the city's busy highways.
Unfortunate Incident
This new law was enacted after a tragic incident occurred last Saturday evening when a driver’s tire exploded while a group was performing the Maghrib prayer by the roadside. This accident resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to nine others, six of whom sustained serious injuries.
Police Warnings
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police, stated, "Saturday's incident serves as a strong message against stopping on the roadside to pray near moving traffic. There are numerous mosques and gas stations in the city where drivers can perform their prayers safely, instead of risking their lives by praying on the roadside."
Police Measures
Dubai Police have firmly stated that they will impound the vehicles of drivers who continue to engage in this dangerous practice, should they persist in endangering their lives and the lives of others by praying on the roadside.
