Egypt's Initiative to Convert Cars to Natural Gas for a Sustainable Future

The Egyptian government is set to launch a new initiative aimed at converting cars to run on natural gas. This initiative is part of its efforts to reduce harmful carbon emissions and provide economic savings for citizens. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, held a meeting today at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to review the progress of this significant initiative.

Dr. Madbouly mentioned that this meeting is part of a series of regular discussions focused on monitoring the developments in implementing the initiative, which is scheduled to commence at the beginning of the new year. He also highlighted the ongoing coordination between the Ministries of Finance and Petroleum to ensure the timely launch of the initiative.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing the environment by reducing the harmful emissions associated with conventional fuel usage, as well as providing financial savings for citizens amid rising fuel prices.

During the meeting, the Minister of Petroleum clarified that there is a joint working team consisting of representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Petroleum, which has prepared the initiative aimed at converting cars to natural gas. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the effective implementation of this initiative.

Additionally, an awareness campaign has been developed to educate citizens about the benefits and returns they will receive by participating in the initiative and converting their cars to natural gas.

Advantages of Converting Cars to Natural Gas

Mohamed Al-Homsi, the official spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated in a press statement that the meeting addressed a detailed report regarding the initiative to convert 1.5 million vehicles to natural gas. He explained that this conversion will result in substantial savings in diesel consumption, as converting diesel-powered vehicles to natural gas can save up to 50% of current diesel usage. Furthermore, using natural gas will reduce the value of the subsidies provided for petroleum products.

Procedures and Regulations for the Initiative

A unified website has been announced by companies under the Ministry of Petroleum, which is currently in a trial phase. This website will allow citizens interested in joining the initiative to register starting from the new year. Additionally, citizens who have previously registered at customer service centers will be able to complete the conversion procedures easily.

Yassin Mohamed, CEO of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company, and Eng. Moataz Atef, Head of the Central Administration at the Ministry of Petroleum, as well as other senior executives involved in the initiative.
