Honda and General Motors Join Forces for Electric Vehicle Innovation

Honda and General Motors have decided to join forces as the automotive industry heads into the electrification era. The two giants have announced that their vehicles will share a new global platform that will utilize GM's Ultium battery technology. As part of their ambitious plans, the two firms aim to produce millions of electric vehicles (EVs) starting from 2027.

Joint Research and Development

The Japanese and American firms will also engage in joint research on solid-state batteries, sharing technology, design, and part-sourcing strategies. Their goal is to decrease costs and make EVs more affordable by leveraging resources effectively.

Production and Features

Furthermore, Honda EVs will be produced at GM plants in the US and will incorporate the GM OnStar driver-assist system. This collaboration is not the first between Honda and GM. Honda is a partner of GM in its autonomous vehicles program, Cruise Automation, to which it announced a $2 billion investment over the course of 12 years back in 2018.

Honda and GM will build on our successful technology collaboration to help achieve a dramatic expansion in the sales of electric vehicles."
