Maserati Enters Formula E with New Gen 3 Cars in 2023

Introduction to Formula E's New Era

We told you last month that Formula E will be entering a new era in 2023 with new Gen 3 cars entering the fray. The Gen 3 racer will be the first formula car with a powertrain at the front (250kW) and the back (350kW), making it the fastest Formula E car to date. Exciting stuff then, right?

Maserati's Historic Return to Motorsport

To make things even more mouth-watering, Maserati has announced that it will become the first Italian carmaker to enter Formula E with ROKiT Venturi Racing in 2023. Ever since 2010, Maserati has stayed away from motorsport, so the iconic carmaker entering Season 9 of the ABB Formula E Championship has got Maserati fans jumping up and down on the sofa.

Collaboration with ROKiT Venturi Racing

The good stuff doesn’t end there as head honchos of the two firms, Davide Grasso of Maserati and Scott Swid of ROKiT Venturi Racing, shook hands in front of what looks like the next-gen Gran Turismo. Not just motorsport, Maserati has excited car lovers with the first clear glimpse of its 1,200bhp GT.

Statements from Maserati and ROKiT Venturi Racing

Maserati’s CEO, David Grasso, commented: “Returning to motorsport with Formula E was a natural choice for Maserati. Indeed, we are driven by our passion and innovation. We are happy to share this adventure with a partner that abides by the same values as we do and is looking ahead to the future, just like us. We share with the ROKiT Venturi Racing team the same determination and desire to compete and win on circuits all over the world.”

“Partnering with Maserati for Gen3 is brilliant news. It’s excellent for the team, for Maserati and Formula E, but above all else, it’s fantastic news for the fans who will witness the return of an iconic marque to top-tier motorsport. Not only does this establish strong foundations for our long-term future in Formula E, but it also marks one of the most exciting stories in international sport in which a prestigious brand is returning to its roots by joining the most progressive and fastest-growing form of motorsport,” said Scott Swid, Chairman & Managing Partner, ROKiT Venturi Racing.
