Porsche has recently announced that the new Boxster will bear the 718 badge. Apart from the name change, the key updates include the introduction of turbocharged engines, replacing the previous 3.0L engine. This change aims to enhance fuel efficiency and power without increasing engine size.
Details regarding the power output of these new engines have not been disclosed until now. Porsche has now revealed this information, providing two engine options for the Boxster and Boxster S:
- Boxster Engine: 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged with 300 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque.
- Boxster S Engine: 2.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged with 350 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque.
In other words, both models deliver an increase of 35 horsepower compared to their predecessors. The Boxster produces 100 Nm more torque than before, while the Boxster S boasts an additional 60 Nm, which is impressive given the engine size.
The fuel consumption rates are not yet clear, but Porsche states that it has improved by approximately 14%. This enhancement is attributed to the PDK system, which allows for smoother gear shifts by selecting gears in a sequence and allowing the clutch to slide between them.
The new engines also enhance performance. The Boxster accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, while the Boxster S achieves this in 4 seconds. This represents an improvement of 0.7 and 0.5 seconds respectively compared to the previous models. But the changes don’t stop there; the exterior features a new front and rear design, new LED headlights, and larger air intakes. Interior updates include a new dashboard and an upgraded entertainment system. Both models are set to be available for purchase by mid-year, with prices starting at $57,000 for the Boxster and $70,000 for the Boxster S.
