Nissan Formula E Team Launches 'Department of Futures' Campaign

Nissan's Formula E team, in association with OnePoll, conducted a survey with 6,000 prodigies aged 8 to 16, sharing their insights on a future driven by electric mobility. The participants hailed from Brazil, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the UK, and the US.

Complementing the survey was an innovative ad campaign released by Nissan on its official channel and Nismo. The campaign features a convoy of knowledgeable 7- to 10-year-olds visiting Nissan's Formula E development venue, asking thought-provoking questions. Titled ‘Department of Futures,’ the video showcases humorous conversations, including insights from team Principal, Tommaso Volpe.

Findings

In line with the growing consciousness towards a cleaner future, 50% of the respondents stated they would prefer electric cars to help save the environment. Additionally, 68% confirmed that tackling climate change is inevitable and crucial.

The TVC campaign aims to engage audiences of all ages, with the children portraying guardians of the environment. They monitor pollutants and manufacturing processes to ensure that the Nissan Formula E team adheres to their standards. The campaign also highlights Nissan’s Ambition 2030 pledge, which includes launching 27 new electric vehicles by the end of the decade.

Through the survey, Nissan discovered that while youth are ready to adopt large-scale electrification, understanding eco-friendly practices is still in a primitive phase. Only 50% of participants understood the meaning of ‘eco-friendly,’ and only 30% regarded themselves as environmentally noble.

Plan of Action

This indicates the necessity for educating the youth and society about environmental concepts before fully implementing electric propulsion. Clarity on actions to conserve natural resources will facilitate a quicker transition from gasoline/ICE cars to electric vehicles.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, commented: “We realize the importance of providing the next generation with the tools to continue fighting climate change through electric mobility. The survey proves the desire of young people to help the environment through their choice of vehicles. At Nissan Formula E Team, we are committed to developing important technologies. The ‘Department of Futures’ members are knowledgeable about electrification, and it’s our goal to ensure they enjoy a greener, better future.”
