High-Tech Navigation Smart Maps in Dubai Taxis

Introduction

High-tech navigation smart maps have been added to taxi cabs by the Public Transport Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). This new concept has been implemented to ensure passengers reach their destination efficiently by assisting drivers in navigating the city.

Implementation of Smart Maps

Adel Shakri, Director of Transport Systems at the RTA Public Transport Agency, stated that these smart maps have been applied to over 3,500 cabs in Dubai.

Future Expansion

“All of our cabs, totaling 8,007, will adopt the new system by the end of 2013,” said Shakri. He further added, “The system also records the real-time movement of the vehicles reserved by passengers through the respective reservation and distribution centre at the Transport Systems Department.”

Driver Training

According to Marwan Othman, Director of Fleet Drivers Affairs at Dubai Taxi Corporation, 8,000 drivers have enrolled for training on the new system so far.
