Rimac Automobili's New Operational Structure for 2022

Rimac Technology

Introduction

Rimac Automobili has announced that the Rimac Group will be fully operational from the start of 2022. Following its merger with Bugatti last year, Rimac has restructured into two separate entities: Bugatti Rimac and a standalone Rimac Technology company.

Benefits of the New Structure

This restructuring is beneficial as it allows Rimac to develop future EV platforms independently, free from any restrictions imposed by Bugatti and Porsche, despite Bugatti holding a 55% share and Porsche 45% in the company. This change means that research and development can continue as before at Rimac.

Rimac Technology's Capabilities

The dedicated Rimac Technology company will enable the Croatian hypercar maker to collaborate with third-party manufacturers and create innovative products, including:

  • Small hybrid battery systems
  • High-performance systems
  • Complete rolling chassis

Rimac Technology is projected to produce tens of thousands of high-performance systems annually by 2024.

Future Collaborations

This new structure gives Rimac the flexibility to work with various companies, continuing its history of partnerships. Rimac has indicated that there are many additional projects, currently undisclosed, underway with various car manufacturers.

Technological Innovations

Mate Rimac, CEO of Rimac, emphasized that groundbreaking technologies such as:

  • e-Axles
  • Torque Vectoring
  • Battery systems
  • Connectivity
  • AI and other electric systems

These innovations, showcased in Rimac's hypercar, the Nevera, illustrate what Rimac Technology can achieve without the limitations of a large-scale manufacturer. This suggests that similar technologies may be adapted for smaller or medium-sized EVs influenced by Rimac.

Conclusion

“Separating the technology business into its own entity is a natural step as the focus of the two markets, hypercars and components, are completely different,” stated Mate Rimac.

He concluded, “This new structure will enable each company of the Rimac Group to flourish to their full potential while still sharing synergies between them—for example, using our own hypercars as testbeds for new technology before we offer it to other OEMs.”
