Swapping Automatic Driving Licenses for Manual in Dubai
In an effort to revive manual transmission driving in the UAE, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a new service that allows holders of automatic driving licenses to exchange them for manual driving licenses free of charge.

Details of the New Service
This new service is set to launch in October and is exclusive to light vehicles. It allows applicants to take the test without the need for prior training lessons. Jamal Al-Sada, Director of Driver Licensing at the RTA, stated, "The test does not focus on driving skills; rather, it emphasizes the ability to handle a manual transmission."
If the applicant fails the test, they will be informed of their weaknesses and provided with appropriate suggestions to improve their manual driving skills before reapplying for another test.

Al-Sada added, "Handling a manual transmission requires specific skills such as paying attention to the road while shifting gears, the ability to change gears without distraction, and smoothly transitioning between gears while driving. This presents a different scenario for manual license holders who can easily drive automatic cars."
