Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar: Enhanced Performance and Features
Introduction to Volvo's Polestar Models
Volvo cars have always been the go-to machines for safe driving. However, safe driving can sometimes be perceived as a dull commute from point A to point B. In response, Volvo has partnered with Polestar Racing to create more performance-oriented versions of their civilized city cars. These Polestar models, including the S60 and V60, are surprisingly enjoyable to drive and are often underrated in the automotive world. Launched around two years ago, these models have quickly garnered a dedicated fanbase.
Updates for the 2017 Model Year
Good news for Polestar fans! From the 2017 model year, both the S60 and V60 will retire their old 3.0 inline-six engines, which felt outdated and consumed excessive fuel. Instead, these models will be powered by the new Volvo 2.0-liter engines, equipped with both a turbocharger and supercharger. This upgrade means more power and improved fuel efficiency.
Performance Specifications
- Polestar Models Power: 367 BHP
- Torque: 369 lb-ft
- Previous Power: 340 BHP
- Previous Torque: 346 lb-ft
This transition marks a significant improvement. The new engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Coupled with an all-wheel-drive system, the Polestar models can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, down from 5.0 seconds. The top speed remains limited to 250 km/h.
Enhanced Features and Specifications
Additionally, the engineers at Polestar have managed to reduce the weight of the cars, making them approximately 20 kgs lighter than their predecessors. New features include:
- New set of 20” alloy wheels
- Upgraded tuning for electronic power steering
- Enhanced braking system
Volvo typically sells around 1,500 Polestar models annually, which is 750 units more than the previous year. Please note that the specifications mentioned are primarily for the European markets and may vary slightly for the GCC region. Expect these models to be available by the end of this year.
