Volvo XC90: Comprehensive Review of Specifications and Performance
Introduction
The decision to purchase a Volvo vehicle is not commonly heard in this region, primarily because Volvos are neither cheap nor excessively luxurious. However, thanks to its new owner Geely, Volvo has started to compete more aggressively with the launch of the XC90.
Main Specifications
- Engine: 2.0 liters
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic
- Power: 320 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque
- Top Speed: 249 km/h
- Starting Price: 300,000 AED
Exterior Design
The XC90 has achieved significant success since its launch. After decades of subtle changes in its lineup, Volvo decided to adopt a completely different design approach to give us a glimpse of the future. As a car journalist, I was impressed by its modern yet simple design. It stands out entirely from its competitors, which I appreciated. The T-shaped headlights and large front grille were particularly appealing.
Interior and Safety
The interior is stunning, featuring a simple and elegant design. It resembles a spacecraft with its touchscreen display, akin to an iPad. Soft-touch materials are abundant, along with plenty of leather and metal accents. The cabin accommodates up to seven people, with the third row being the best for children. The touchscreen interface is user-friendly, and the model I tested, called Inscription, comes equipped with 19 speakers, ambient lighting, a heads-up display, and a four-zone climate control system.
In terms of safety, the XC90 reigns supreme. It includes automatic brakes, driver assistance features, Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), road sign recognition, numerous airbags, and adaptive cruise control.
Driving Experience
The 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged engine produces 320 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed transmission and all-wheel drive. This allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 7.5 seconds. While this SUV isn't designed for sporty performance, I did wish for a larger engine. Nevertheless, driving the XC90 is incredibly comfortable, thanks to its air suspension system. Overall, great job, Volvo!
Conclusion
The XC90 is built for city cruising, and it excels at this task brilliantly.
