GMC Terrain 2018

Come January and petrolheads across the globe prepare themselves for the Detroit Auto Show – an event that successfully gathers auto fanatics, manufacturers and their newest offerings, all under one roof. From drawing boards to reality and from minor facelifts to complete overhauls, here’s a list of the most exciting vehicles at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.

Featured Vehicles

Chevrolet Traverse

A full-size crossover that has been in production since 2009, the Chevrolet Traverse keeps up with the times by flaunting a smarter and neater exterior than the outgoing model. Sleeker headlamps and a lower, wider appearance lend it a pleasant stance. Safer than ever before, the redesigned Traverse is seen welcoming:

  • Surround Vision camera
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Automatic braking

Under the hood resides one of two engines: a 3.6-liter V6 or an Ecotec 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. While the former produces 305 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, the latter generates a formidable 255 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and feature stop/start technology for improved fuel efficiency.

Ford F-150

Barely two years into the thirteenth-generation model, Ford has decided to redesign America’s best-selling vehicle: the Ford F-150. Sporting updated styling and a host of safety systems, Dearborn’s light-duty pick-up truck is determined to increase the gap with its lagging rivals even further. A bold new grille embellishes the pickup truck’s countenance, flanked by redesigned headlamps that complement the prominent bumper.

In addition to a set of new wheels and several aesthetic improvements, the 2018 Ford F-150 features:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Pre-collision assist
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Bang & Olufsen sound system
  • Around-view monitor
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring system

GMC Terrain

Interesting, to say the least, the GMC Terrain’s aesthetic overhaul is far from striking. Largely untouched since 2009, the American crossover is the most compact offering in the marque’s line-up and competes with the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5. The updated exterior is matched by an improved interior featuring:

  • An 8-inch infotainment screen
  • Apple Car Play and Android Auto functionality
  • An onboard Wi-Fi hotspot
  • A 7-speaker Bose sound system

As for the power plant, the Terrain offers two engines, a 1.5-liter petrol unit and a larger 2.0-liter option. While the 1.5-liter unit produces 170 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque, the larger displacement unit churns out 252 horsepower and 353 Nm of torque. Both engines direct their power through a 9-speed automatic transmission to a front-wheel-drive layout.

Kia Stinger

An amalgamation of the Kia Optima and Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the Kia Stinger is the Korean brand’s rear-wheel-drive performance sedan that has its sights set on the BMW 4-Series. Designed by Peter Schreyer, the Kia Stinger is the first Kia to offer adjustable ride damping and adjustable electric power steering.

The Kia Stinger's powertrain includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 255 horsepower and 352 Nm of torque, while the beefier 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 delivers 365 horsepower and an astounding 494 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and can optionally be mapped to an all-wheel-drive layout. The V6 boasts a top speed of 269 km/h and a 0 – 100 km/h time of just 5.1 seconds – impressive but not quite at that 4-Series sort of level.
