2016 Renault Duster Review
Introduction
The Renault Duster made its debut in France in 2010, known in some regions as the Dacia Duster or the Nissan Terrano in others. Available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions, today we will focus on the four-wheel drive model and share our experience regarding its enjoyment and performance as a relatively affordable SUV.
The starting price for the Duster is AED 49,900, which includes a 3-year/60,000 km service contract, a 5-year/million km warranty, and one year of insurance.
Main Features
- Engine: 2.0 liters / 4 cylinders
- Transmission: 4-speed automatic
- Power: 135 hp / 195 Nm of torque
- Top Speed: 173 km/h
- Price: AED 58,900
Exterior Design
The Duster's design shows minimal changes compared to the previous model. It features large front headlights, a roof rack, a segmented front grille, and a prominent front bumper, all contributing to its rugged off-road character. Additionally, it boasts halogen headlights that provide excellent visibility and 16-inch wheels.
Interior Design
Not only is the Duster approximately 45% cheaper than the Nissan Qashqai, but it also offers more interior space. Its cabin provides ample space and a generous amount of headroom and legroom for all passengers.
Safety and Technology
The Duster comes equipped with essential safety features, including anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and two airbags. However, these limited features may not compete well with rivals in terms of safety. It received a 3-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme, which is lower than its competitor, the Ford EcoSport, that is similarly priced.
On the technology front, the vehicle is equipped with a decent audio system, a multimedia touchscreen with AUX and USB inputs, a rearview camera, parking sensors, and cruise control.
Driving Experience
Powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, the Duster produces 135 hp and 195 Nm of torque. It features front and rear approach angles of 30 degrees and 36 degrees respectively, making it suitable for those looking to venture off the beaten path on sand dunes.
Verdict
The Renault Duster is often perceived negatively in the region and is considered less fuel-efficient compared to its competitors. However, for anyone looking to purchase a capable four-wheel drive vehicle at a price of AED 49,900, this model could be a very suitable option.
Pros
- Affordable price
- Spacious cabin and trunk
- Four-wheel drive for off-road conditions
Cons
- Somewhat underpowered
- Interior design feels outdated and lacks essential features
- Low safety rating
