Review of the 2017 Infiniti Q60: Performance and Design

Introduction

The year 2012 was full of significant global events, from Queen Elizabeth II celebrating sixty years of the British monarchy to the reelection of former U.S. President Barack Obama. To mark its presence that year, Infiniti launched a series of new car names that became a notable moment in the automotive world.

Infiniti replaced its car names “M”, “G”, “QX”, “FX”, “JX”, and “EX” with a simpler “Q” followed by numbers that are multiples of ten, requiring customers to relearn the new names after becoming accustomed to the iconic previous ones.

Recently, we had the chance to test the remarkable Infiniti Q60, which serves as a replacement for the legendary “G” coupe. The Q60 competes against models like the Lexus RC and BMW 4 Series.

Main Specifications

Engine: 3.0-liter / 6 cylinders
Transmission: 7-speed automatic

Exterior Design

Car brands, regardless of their manufacturing, often evoke certain perceptions in our minds. For instance, thinking of red might bring to mind Ferrari cars, while upward-opening doors undoubtedly remind you of Lamborghini vehicles. In the case of today's car, the name "coupe" instantly connects to the stunning designs of coupes from the Japanese company, Infiniti.

When news of the second generation of the Q60 emerged in late 2014, many fans of the model were left wondering if the new generation could match the success of its renowned predecessor. A few years later, Infiniti's designers exceeded expectations and produced what can only be described as a masterpiece.

Interior Design

Infiniti's creativity extends from its exterior design into the cabin. It borrows elements from the Q50 sedan, opting for a blend of luxury over sporty touches. The interior showcases glossy black and silver accents, accompanied by plush leather upholstery, creating an exquisite atmosphere that reflects design excellence.

The new model maintains the sporty character of its predecessor, featuring a large steering wheel, a clear instrument panel, and muscular, comfortable front seats. The Q60's cabin is praised for its spaciousness in both the passenger area and the trunk.

Technology and Safety

The 2017 Infiniti Q60 is equipped with top-of-the-line technology features. The cabin includes two stacked displays for multimedia, framed by glossy black borders. The lower screen functions as a touchscreen with physical buttons positioned beneath it, parallel to the steering wheel.

It also comes with a 13-speaker Bose system that delivers a concert-like experience, complemented by an active noise cancellation system that enhances audio quality. The car is equipped with numerous assistance systems including adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, a surround view monitor, rear collision intervention, emergency braking, and blind-spot detection.

Driving Experience

Infiniti has replaced the naturally aspirated engine found in the previous model with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine in the new model. This engine generates approximately 400 horsepower and 475 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission that directs power to the rear wheels.

The 2017 Q60 offers an impressive amount of power, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. Additionally, it provides a remarkable 336 different settings for engine behavior, throttle response, and steering weight—all of which can be adjusted simply by changing the driving mode.

Conclusion

The 2017 Infiniti Q60 delivers features that its Japanese competitor, the Lexus RC, and its German rival, the BMW 4 Series, lack. The Q60 combines the advantages of luxury cars with those of sports cars. However, despite its outstanding specifications, its price of approximately 320,000 AED may pose a challenge to its success.
