2017 Toyota Land Cruiser Xtreme: Exceptional Power and Performance
The Toyota Land Cruiser is the oldest vehicle in the Japanese manufacturer's lineup and is one of the most recognized vehicles in the Gulf region. Wherever you turn your head, you are likely to spot a Land Cruiser. To cater to thrill-seekers, Toyota has launched a specially modified version designed to align with the adventurous lifestyles of car enthusiasts.
Since 2008, Arctic Trucks has been modifying Land Cruisers in the UAE, renowned for its expertise in re-engineering and unleashing the potential of 4x4 vehicles without compromising safety and reliability. This year, Arctic Trucks has applied its famous modifications and introduced a new beast on the roads: the 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser Xtreme, a powerful vehicle suited for desert adventurers, rough mountain terrains, and city roads.

Exterior Design
The exterior design of the Land Cruiser Xtreme reflects its name, showcasing a bold appearance with a 2-inch lift kit and large wheel arches that prevent the tires from protruding and rubbing against the vehicle's body. It features a muscular look complemented by 18-inch wheels fitted with 285/60 BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. The wheels are designed in a glossy black finish and proudly display the Arctic Trucks logo.
The front of the vehicle is adorned with a massive grille accompanied by chrome accents and surrounded by daytime running LED lights, wipers, and fog lights. On the sides, it is equipped with electronic door mirrors, chrome door handles, and chrome door protectors. At the rear, the vehicle stands out with a roof rack and a rear bumper equipped with a towing hitch.
Interior Design
The beauty of the interior reflects simplicity in design combined with modern technology, offering a spacious cabin where everything is within easy reach. The infotainment system has been significantly improved from the previous model, featuring a 9-inch touchscreen equipped with navigation, smartphone connectivity, USB and AUX ports, Bluetooth capabilities, and a wireless charging pad located beneath the climate control controls.
The steering wheel is wrapped in leather with wooden accents, which can sometimes make it a bit slippery. Similar materials are used on the dashboard and door panels. The vehicle is also equipped with comfortable beige leather seats with multiple adjustment positions.
Safety and Technology
One feature that impressed me is the cooler in the center console, which keeps your drinks cold and prevents chocolate bars from melting. It is equipped with an air compressor capable of inflating two tires at once to the desired pressure. Known for its powerful air conditioning system, the Xtreme features dual-zone climate control in the cabin along with manual cooling in the rear. The vehicle also boasts ample head and legroom, even in the third row of seats.
Regarding safety features, it includes an anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), traction control, front and side airbags, curtain airbags, parking sensors, a rearview camera, rear fog lights, cruise control, active traction control, hill-start assist (HAC), and a crawl control system that is extremely useful if you get stuck in the sand.
Driving Experience
The Land Cruiser Xtreme is powered by a robust 4.6-liter / 8-cylinder engine that generates 304 horsepower and 439 Nm of torque, making it highly suitable for off-road driving. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, reaching a top speed of 170 km/h, and excels in off-road capabilities rather than high-speed driving.
It also features impressive brakes that perform excellently during sudden stops. The vehicle's ground clearance is particularly beneficial when driving in the desert. Additionally, its unique traction system and superb suspension make the driving experience enjoyable and comfortable. Despite these outstanding specifications, it does have some downsides, such as high fuel consumption and a heavy steering feel in the city that takes some getting used to.
Final Verdict
The Land Cruiser Xtreme competes with rivals such as the Nissan Patrol Desert Edition (its closest competitor) and the Ford Expedition. It stands out by offering high off-road capabilities, spacious seating for up to 8 passengers, and an advanced infotainment system. This vehicle is ideal for those seeking a high-performance SUV that meets the demands of their adventurous lifestyle.
