Farewell to the Land Rover Defender

End of an Era

We will be saying farewell to Land Rover’s iconic off-roader, the Defender, which will end its production next month.

Successor in the Works

The Defender has been in production since 1983, but the good news is a successor is planned, although not before 2018. The new Defender will be positioned between Land Rover’s Discovery and Range Rover.

Expected Variants

According to Automotive News, there will be at least five versions of the new Defender:

• Closed three-door version
• Open three-door version
• Five-door version with third-row seats
• Two-door pickup version
• Four-door pickup version

Powertrain Expectations

Nothing is confirmed yet, but for the powertrain, we expect to see:

• A 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine
• A 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel engine
• A 3.0L V6 engine

Debut Timeline

The new Defender will probably debut as a 2019 model, but we will have to wait until 2018 to know more details.
