2019 Lexus NX Review: A Compact Luxury Crossover SUV
With the boom of compact luxury crossover SUVs in the market, it was inevitable that Lexus would tap into it. They have the RX, but that’s too expensive or much too large for many buyers looking to enter this segment. Therefore, in late 2014, we were introduced to the Lexus NX. The NX is smaller than the RX, sharing its basic architecture with the Toyota RAV4, utilizing Toyota’s brand-new MC platform. Since its debut in 2014, the Lexus NX has been performing well, aided by its relatively affordable starting price.
Even though the Lexus NX shares its underpinnings with the common RAV4, everything else is distinctly Lexus. The NX’s captivating and trendy design makes it one of the most popular cars in its class. Its competitive price against chief rivals only strengthens the NX’s appeal. Speaking of rivals, the 2019 Lexus NX competes with the following vehicles:
Exterior Design
The Lexus NX undeniably features one of the most eye-catching designs in the luxury compact crossover segment. The front fascia looks aggressive yet smart, highlighted by Lexus’s newly revised Spindle grille, sharp triple-LED headlights, and unmistakable LED daytime-running lights positioned below them. The sporty bumper, designed around the massive grille, includes real air intakes and LED fog lights.
The side profile showcases aggressively molded sheet metal work, substantially flared fenders, dashing 18-inch alloy wheels, large door-mounted wing mirrors, black lower-body cladding, and stylish door handles. At the back, the NX features bulging, 3D-design LED taillights and a sporty roof spoiler. However, the fake vents in the bumper and subtle air diffuser seem less appealing. Overall, while the rear styling is decent, it doesn't quite match the captivating front design. For dimensions, the 2019 Lexus NX measures 4.630 meters in length, 1.845 meters in width, 1.630 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.660 meters, providing a spacious 500-liter boot for its strict 5-seater layout.
Interior Features
The interior design of the 2019 Lexus NX is quirky, cool, and sophisticated. The center dashboard styling is one of the most eye-catching elements of this cabin's design. The NX’s interior boasts high-quality materials and trim pieces, with exceptional build quality throughout.
The seats are plush, comfortable, and supportive. The cabin is spacious, allowing ample room for both front and rear seat occupants. Notable features include:
- Adaptive LED headlights
- Adaptive cruise control
- Panoramic sunroof
- Power tailgate
- Leather upholstery
- Power front seats with ventilation
- 14-speaker premium audio system
- 10.3-inch infotainment screen with navigation
Engine and Performance
Under the hood of the Lexus NX lies a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 235 hp and 350 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The NX can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h; however, its fuel economy is less impressive at 9.8 L/100 km.
Verdict
The 2019 Lexus NX range starts from AED 175,000 for the base trim and goes up to AED 225,000 for the fully-loaded top variant. Insurance costs range between AED 3,938 and AED 5,063.
