To develop Northern Emirates infrastructure, the Sheikh Khalifa Interchange was among the first projects to benefit from the planning.
In March 2011, the work on the improved network started, and in February this year the construction was completed at a cost of around Dh 300 million.
According to Dr Abdullah Al Nuaimi, under secretary of the Ministry of Public Works, the project was part of the region development plan which is around Dh16 billion announced by President Sheikh Khalifa.
The original flyover was demolished and then rebuilt into the biggest junction of its kind in the emirate, with various connecting roads linking Ajman to the rest of the UAE.
Officials renamed it after the President when it was opened this year, and people were happy about the junction for the ease to the traffic it made.
