Exterior Design
Undoubtedly, one of the primary reasons for the affection towards Alfa Romeo is its stunning exterior design. The car boasts an incredible design that is unmistakably Alfa Romeo, characterized by its triangular front grille featuring the Alfa Romeo logo at its center, a signature for all Alfa models. This design exudes both luxury and a clear sporty vibe, highlighted by prominent power lines on the front and sides, complemented by a rear that embodies beauty and strength.
To enhance the sporty appeal, the version we have comes with dark gray 18-inch alloy wheels and yellow brake calipers inscribed with "Alfa Romeo." Additionally, it features dynamic LED daytime running lights that are exceptionally attractive.
Interior Design
Upon entering the Giulia, you immediately sense a unique ambiance, with a continuation of the impressive sporty design. One of the standout aspects of this design is the incorporation of the entertainment system display within the dashboard, rather than protruding from the top like in competing vehicles.
The use of leather on the seats and dashboard is evident, along with real wood inserts that I personally love in any car. The sporty feel is further amplified by the fantastic flat-bottom steering wheel, which features a start button and aluminum paddle shifters inspired by Ferrari, providing what I believe is the perfect design.
Regarding rear space, it’s adequate for two passengers but a bit cramped for three due to the elevated middle floor. However, the trunk space is ample and meets expectations for this class of vehicles.
Safety and Technology Specifications
For controlling the entertainment system, you’ll find a dial on the center console similar to Audi's MMI system (though of less premium quality). While its design suggests touch functionality, it is merely aesthetic.
To the right, there is a small dial for controlling the audio system, which comes equipped with 14 Harman Kardon speakers. To the left, you’ll find a dial for the three driving modes (Dynamic, Natural, and Advanced Efficiency). The Giulia also features a dual-zone automatic climate control system with vents in both the front and rear.
At the center of the beautifully designed instrument cluster, there is an information screen that changes the displayed data based on the driving mode. Of course, there are buttons on the steering wheel for starting the car, controlling the cruise control system, Bluetooth connectivity, and the audio system.
In terms of safety systems, the Giulia is equipped with numerous features, including a collision warning system with automatic braking and a lane departure warning. Notably, the braking system in the Giulia is an electric-mechanical system that outperforms its competitors, requiring only 38.5 meters to come to a complete stop from 100 km/h.
Driving Experience
Now, let's discover the main reason why Europeans adore this car. The sensation you feel from the very first moment behind the wheel, along with the high sensitivity, precision, and control conveyed through the Giulia's steering, cannot be compared to any other car in this class. Truly, this remarkable chassis was designed by someone with a passion for driving.
Despite the Giulia we have being equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces only 200 horsepower and features rear-wheel drive, enhancing the driving pleasure of such a compact car, it is a testament to the enjoyment you can derive from this Alfa Romeo. Every turn you take provides a sense of complete control over the steering.
The Giulia comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers high responsiveness, even though it is not a dual-clutch system. To increase driving enjoyment, I found it irresistible to use the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, which continually entice you to engage them.
One of the factors that enhance the sporty nature of the Giulia is the engineers' use of aluminum and carbon fiber in its mechanical components, reducing its weight compared to all its competitors.
With all this incredible feeling during the drive, I was surprised that it did not compromise on driving comfort. The suspension system can be adjusted to a "Soft" mode with a button press on the driving mode dial, effectively smoothing out road imperfections without sacrificing your sense of control over the car. Indeed, the Giulia excels in driving dynamics compared to any of its competitors.
After experiencing this version, I genuinely want to try it with more powerful engine options, such as the 2.0-liter turbo with 280 horsepower or, of course, the Quadrifoglio V6 turbo with 505 horsepower.
Conclusion
While competing German cars may have produced superior models compared to the Alfa Romeo Giulia, if you have a passion for cars and driving, the Giulia is a vehicle crafted with love and enthusiasm for driving. This is the principal reason why driving enthusiasts in Europe adore Alfa Romeo vehicles.
