2017 Audi A5 Highlights

Posted by Zaran Tarapore on Jun 21, 2016

The Audi A5 is a key player in the mid-size segment and rivals the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 4-Series, and Lexus RC. Now in its second generation, we take a closer look at what exactly has changed and whether or not the 2017 Audi A5 has what it takes to hold its rightful place on the podium.

Exterior

The Audi A5 range has for long challenged the status quo and differentiated itself from its rivals. While its predecessor sported an outer shell that was embellished with softer curves, the all-new model looks fresher, sharper, and a whole lot more intimidating.

Interior

Continuing the horizontal layout first featured on the second-generation Q7, the cabin of the A5 benefits from more space due to increased dimensions and a longer wheelbase. While the optional ambient lighting system allows for the interior to illuminated in 30 different hues, the quality of the materials used haven’t been compromised.

Performance

Coupled with an all-new chassis, the electromechanical power steering adapts to the vehicle’s current speed and provides the driver with precise feedback. The optionally available Dynamic Steering takes this up a notch by altering gear ratios depending on the speed and steering angle.

Beneath the deeply sculpted hood resides a 2.0-liter TFSI unit that pushes out up to 252 horsepower in standard guise and a 3.0-liter unit that pushes out 354 horsepower in S5 garb. Statistically, that translates to both engines churning out up to 17% more performance while sipping up to 22% less gasoline than their predecessors.

Technology

Be it in terms of the infotainment system or the multitude of driver aids on board, Audi hasn’t held back in the technology department. The 2017 A5 features wireless charging, Apple Car Play, and even a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 3D sound to ensure the audiophiles keep grinning. On the safety front, there’s active lane assist, park assist, cross-traffic assist, and a collision avoidance system.

So while the A5 may have undergone a series of major changes, it is safe to say that it holds on everything that made the first generation model extremely popular.
