Audi, the German marque that earns its reputation for being synonymous with innovation and excitement, introduces the second-generation A5: a car that revolutionized the mid-size segment in 2007. Rivalling segment heavyweights such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 4-Series, and Lexus RC, the Audi A5 that is set to hit our shores in the first quarter of 2017 retains its formula for success - a striking exterior complemented by exhilarating performance.

Under the brawny bodywork of the 2017 Audi A5 resides an all-new chassis, a range of powerful engines, and a plethora of features – all of which the team at YallaMotor are in Portugal to experience firsthand. Aesthetically, the second generation model pays homage to its predecessor with a pronounced contour that runs the length of the vehicle and embellishes the prominent wheel arches.

With a sophisticated mix of materials and lightweight design, the 2017 Audi A5 sheds as much as 60 kilograms over the model it replaces and sports a drag coefficient of just 0.25, making it a segment leader with respect to aerodynamics.

Within the cabin, occupants benefit from greater space due to the increased dimensions and a longer wheelbase. Cargo room, too, sees an increase of 10 liters to a whopping 465 liters, making the A5 that much more practical than the Mercedes-Benz C-Class at 400 liters and the BMW 4-Series at 445 liters.

At the heart of the 2017 A5 resides one of two TFSI units, pushing out either 190 horsepower at the lower end of the rung, or 252 horsepower at the upper end. Both units sip as much as 22% less fuel than the previous model and channel their power to the road through a seven speed transmission.

The turbocharged V6 found in the performance inclined S5 variant, however, is in a league of its own. Producing a tree-uprooting 354 horsepower, it directs its grunt through an eight speed transmission to all four corners and hits the 100 km/h mark in an astonishing 4.7 seconds. A smidgen quicker than its Bavarian rival, the BMW 440i, that completes the sprint in just over 5 seconds.

While that’s all for now folks, stay tuned to find out more about the all-new A5, including our driving impressions.
