7 Essentials For That Upcoming Road Trip

Long weekends are usually accompanied by fun-filled road trips with friends and families getting together to explore neighboring cities and/or countries. But while plenty of time is spent preparing multiple audio playlists, delicious sandwiches, and the ultimate thirst-quenchers, many tend to overlook the most important affiliate of any road trip: their vehicle.

To ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey on that upcoming Eid-Al-Adha road trip, our friends at Pal Auto Garage have created seven simple checks to carry out before you set off with your loved ones this weekend.

Engine Oil

Vital by all means and the very first check for a reason, the engine oil should not only be checked for its level but for its color as well. Should the oil appear dark or a long way off the “full” mark on the dipstick, it is recommended to have the oil changed before the trip to avoid being stranded until help arrives.

Coolant

Hydration for the engine - sufficient amounts of coolant allow the engine to operate without overheating. A quick look under the hood should reveal if you’ve got enough coolant and whether or not there is a potential leak in the engine’s cooling system.

Battery

In addition to carrying a pair of jumper cables, either for yourself or to aid a stranded passerby, it is important to visually check the condition of the battery and the terminals attached to it. Acid leaks should immediately be cleaned off with a cup of warm water, while paying attention to the age of the battery should also spare you from any sticky situations.

Tire Pressure

Although a common practice in the UAE to overinflate tires for improved fuel efficiency, the blistering heat and increased rolling distances are detrimental to the safety of road users, increasing braking distances and the chances of a tire blowout. Tire pressure will vary depending on vehicle size, vehicle load, and tire size.

Spare Tire

Overlooked by many and on several occasions, the spare tire is a saving grace when stranded on the side of the road. In addition to ensuring it is properly inflated, checking the condition of the spare tire is vital, along with inspecting it for cracks and tears before leaving the comfort of your home.

Emergency Kit

Ensure that your tool kit is complete with flashlights, tire sealer inflator cans, tire gauges, jacks, emergency stop signs, windshield water fluid, spare ignition keys, rags & work gloves, along with a basic set of screwdrivers, spanners, and pliers. Additionally, it is also important to pack a personal first aid kit with items like band aids, sanitizers, and so on.

Electrical Equipment

While this includes carrying out checks on the horn, wipers, and lights, it also includes essentials such as the A/C system, for a road trip during the peak summer with no A/C is bound to be memorable, but far from enjoyable.

From the guys and gals at YallaMotor, here’s wishing you and your loved ones a blessed and joyous Eid-Al-Adha. Drive safe!
