Aston Martin DB11 launched at Geneva Motor Show

Aston Martin has lately been a slouch. There were no new upcoming models and no change in design, power or features. All of its cars started to look dated and this was indeed bad news. So, finally, Aston has decided to look into this issue and the redefinition of the brand has begun. The first product delivered from Aston 2.0 is the hallmark of Astons, the all-new DB11. Yes, the british car maker has finally decided to replace the DB9 with a new model in the DB series.

The new DB11 still looks like a DB but has distinctive styling as compared to the earlier model. The new car uses aluminum and other lightweight materials. This platform will be the base for all future cars from Aston Martin. Moreover, this new design used the ‘function over form’ methodology so all these design cues serve a purpose. The gills behind the front wheels release the high pressure air in the wheel arch through the vents down to the rear end. This increases downforce via the new ‘Aeroblade design’. This is a replica of the 599 GTO.

Coming to the drive, well, the new DB11 is powered by an all-new in-house 5.2 liter V12. This is smaller than the 6.0 liter used earlier but now the engine has two turbo units installed. The result, the engine now produces a respectable 600 BHP and 700 Nm of torque. Add to that an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the DB11 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds all the way to a top speed of above 320 km/h. There will also be a V8 version of the DB11. The 4.0 liter turbocharged V8 engine will be borrowed from Mercedes-AMG.

As for the interior features, Aston has covered all the basics. There is electronic power steering, torque vectoring, adaptive suspension with drive modes, digital instrument cluster, infotainment system with a dial and touchpad, parking aids with cameras and ISOFIX for children. Expect the DB11 to be available in GCC end of this year.
