Audi Q2 launched at Geneva Motor Show

Audi has introduced an entirely new vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show. It is called the Audi Q2 and sits below their smallest SUV offering – the Audi Q3. With this model Audi plans to enter the biggest market in the world – compact crossovers. It is based on the Volkswagen MQB platform.

“We have specifically developed the Audi Q2 for young customers,” explained Prof. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “It looks distinguish it as a model with attitude. The compact SUV blends the technical expertise of our brand with high everyday utility and emotional character.”

Coming to the car itself, well, it sure looks different than the rest of the Q family. This is a good thing as all Audi Q members more or less look and feel the same.  The Q2 measures 1.5 meters high, 4.17 meters long and 1.8 meters wide. This translates to more than 1000 liters of storage which is very well indeed.

The good news continues inside as well. The dashboard is taken from new Audis so you have that minimalistic design and the brilliant digital instrument cluster. There are a number of premium features available as well like adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, blind spot alert and lane departure warning.

Engine options, well, there is an entry-level 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine capable of producing 114 BHP due to turbos. But I highly doubt that engine will debut in the GCC. The GCC will have the 2.0 liter turbocharged engine producing 187 BHP. The engine is mated to a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The drive can either be FWD or AWD Quattro.

Since Q2 is already based on the VW platform, so we can expect a VW cousin based on the Q2 in the future.
