Bentley Continental GTC 2016 First Drive

Posted by Mansoor A. Bukhari on Mar 16, 2016

The Bentley Continental GT; it has been around for 13 years and over time it has received incremental improvements but the car still looks and feels the same. Got to hand it to the brand image, it attracts the buyers every year. So what is new in the 2016 Bentley Continental GTC? Let’s have a look.

Exterior

Well, the exterior looks pretty much the same as the last generation however if one looks deeper they will find some subtle changes in the design. There are sharper creases now and the front grille is a tad smaller than the previous one. Moreover, the trunk lid is redesigned as well. And that’s about it. The rest of the car is the same as before but it is still attractive and doesn’t seem to go out of fashion. This is one design that ages well with time like wine. So, hats off to Bentley designers for shaping this machine.

Interior

First, let’s look at the changes. Well, there is new smaller steering wheel. Other than that, there are changes done to the center console as well. Also, there are new material choices as well. Finally, in-car WiFi debuts as an option in the Continental. So, what difference does it make to the overall interior? Not much, but as they say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, this is for the people who take pleasure in the small details of the car. I personally find it comfortable and sublime without going into nitty gritty details. However, the infotainment feels 13 years old and really needs to change.

Drive

Again, let’s highlight the changes first. Good news, they have refreshed the W12 for the 2016 Continental GTC. This new engine is a 6.0 liter twin turbo W12 engine producing 626 BHP and 820 Nm of torque. That’s a lot of torque. But it is required since this thing is heavy – and it shows while cornering. The Audi-quattro drive is a must to pilot this cruise ship and thankfully the AWD works beautifully to propel this monster from 0-100 in under 5.0 seconds however the braking is a bit sloppy and takes under 4.0 seconds to reach a complete stop. Overall, the drive is calm like floating over clouds with the engine just humming along the way and drinking fuel.

Verdict

Celebrities love it. Footballers love it. So, if you’re one of them, you will love it.
