Bugatti Chiron profitable for VW

Bugatti is a name synonymous with records. With the Veyron, they broke the record of building the fastest production car ever, in addition to creating the most expensive one as well at that time. However, there is one more record Bugatti attains which is not something they will be proud of i.e. the mammoth losses generated with each Veyron they sold.

No one in the industry possesses the official figures but experts say that the total loss could be around five million US dollars with each Bugatti Veyron sold. That’s a huge number considering the fact that the car itself was sold around half that amount to the customer. And, with the total number of Veyrons sold is equal to 450 units, the cumulative loss is huge.

However, that won’t be the case with the successor – the Bugatti Chiron – launched recently at Geneva Motor Show. The Bugatti boss Mr. Wolfgang Dürheimer was confident that things will go positively with this new car because the Chiron will definitely be profitable and the revenue generated will help us in the research and development of future Bugatti products. Speaking to The Verge, Dürheimer said: “We did our homework in every dimension.” He added, “This car over its lifetime, with 500 cars and a base price of 2.4 million euros, is adding into the bottom line result of Bugatti and we are making money with this project.”

Looking at this statement, it is clear that Bugatti is indeed planning to sell a total of 500 Chirons in the next eight years. This will include all the special editions and ‘super sport’ versions and convertibles as well. The thing which excites us the most is that Bugatti is also considering other products which includes the Bugatti sedan – a concept introduced in 2009 having the same W16 engine. If this is true, then Bugatti has a powerful future.
